The Mathnawi Maˈnavi, also known as the Masnavi or Mathnawi, is an extensive poetic work written by the Persian poet and mystic, Jalaluddin Rumi. The word “Mathnawi” means “couplets” in Arabic, and “Maˈnavi” means “spiritual” or “inner” in Persian. Hence, the Mathnawi Maˈnavi can be translated as “spiritual couplets.”
